Your website. New or refreshed.

Don't pay for what can be free. We build websites with free, open tools: new from scratch, refreshed, or with lower bills. HAL10000 makes sure they run fast, and you pay only when everything is ready.

      ./how-it-works

      How it works

from the first message to a finished website

      1. [01]Place an order

Tell me as much as you can: what you do, what you need and expect, and what you already have (logo, photos, texts, a current website). Inspiration and examples of websites you like are welcome. The more I know, the easier it is to build exactly what you expect. E-mail works best (files, quote, contract), and soon you'll also be able to ask quick questions on WhatsApp.

        ./mail hi@hal10k.dev ./whatsapp soon

      2. [02]Design3 versions

Based on what you tell me, I prepare 3 different design versions and put them on a test server. I send you the link, and at the top of the page you switch between them with one click:

        • [1] minimal and elegant
        • [2] classic for your trade
        • [3] bold and fresh

You pick one (or we mix ideas from several), then we polish it in 2 free rounds of changes. At this stage I also give you an estimated cost. You pay nothing up front for all 3 versions.

        examples (PL): ./beauty ↗ ./barber ↗ ./renovation ↗ ./mechanic ↗

      3. [03]Finished website

After the final touches, when the design becomes a finished product, I help put the website online: I set up a server on free hosting, or we use what you already have (domain, hosting). You pay only when the website works, at the latest 7 days after launch. Once I receive payment, the website is yours, with all its files.

        ./sample-contract

A sample for illustration. We agree the final text together before work starts. The binding contract is written in Polish under Polish law. This is not legal advice.

Contract for a specific work (umowa o dzieło): building a website

Project code: HAL-………… (Check what stage your website is at in the ./tracker tab)

made on ………… in ………… between:

the Client: [Client's details: full name or company name, address, tax ID (NIP) or PESEL, e-mail]

        and

the Contractor: [Contractor's details: full name or company name, address, tax ID (NIP) or PESEL, e-mail]

        § 1. The work

        1. The Contractor will prepare 3 different design versions of a website for the Client. The Client will choose one of them (or a mix of elements from several versions), and the Contractor will build the website based on it (the Website) according to the quote sent by e-mail on …………, which is an attachment to this contract.

        2. Versions the Client does not choose remain the property of the Contractor.

        § 2. Schedule and process

        1. The Client will provide the texts, photos, logo and contact details needed to build the Website.

        2. The Contractor will put the 3 design versions on a test server within ………… days of receiving the materials and send the link. Late materials move this date.

        3. The Client chooses a version by e-mail.

        4. The price includes two free rounds of changes to the chosen version, requested by e-mail. Further changes are quoted separately.

        § 3. Payment

        1. The fee is PLN ………… (in words: …………) and is the amount to be paid.

        2. There is no deposit, also for preparing the 3 design versions. The fee is paid by bank transfer at the latest within 7 days of the Website going live at its final address, based on a bill or invoice.

        3. The Client may withdraw at any time before the Website goes live and then pays nothing (unlike art. 644 of the Polish Civil Code). All design versions and files then stay with the Contractor.

        § 4. Acceptance and launch

        1. The Client accepts the finished Website by e-mail. Acceptance means the work is received.

        2. The Contractor will set up a server on free hosting or launch the Website on the Client's current domain and hosting. The Client pays domain and hosting fees directly to their providers.

§ 5. Bugs and changes after launch

        1. The Contractor will fix, free of charge, bugs that stop the Website working as quoted, reported by e-mail within ………… days of acceptance.

        2. The first change after launch is free. Further changes are quoted individually.

        3. At the Client's request, the Contractor will check the Website's security (HTTPS, domain, passwords, updates) and advise what to fix.

        4. The Contractor is not responsible for outages of outside services (hosting, domain, e-mail) or for content provided by the Client.

        § 6. Copyright

        1. When the full fee is paid, the Contractor transfers to the Client the economic copyright to the Website, without limits in time or territory, in these fields of use:

        a) recording and copying by any technique, including digital;
        b) loading into computer memory and onto servers;
        c) making it publicly available on the internet so that anyone can access the Website at a place and time of their choosing;
        d) modifying, translating and developing it.

        2. The Contractor agrees to changes to the Website by the Client or people the Client chooses (derivative rights). Together with the rights, the Client receives all source files.

        3. Free tools, fonts and open source libraries stay under their own licences, which allow such use.

        4. The Client declares that they hold the rights to the texts, photos and logo they provide.

        5. The Contractor may show the Website in their portfolio and place a discreet "site by HAL10k.dev" mark in the footer. The mark will be removed at the Client's request.

        § 7. Final provisions

        1. The parties contact each other by e-mail at the addresses given above. Changes to the contract can be agreed by e-mail.

        2. The contract is signed by hand or with a qualified electronic signature, because transferring copyright requires written form.

        3. Matters not covered here are governed by the Polish Civil Code and the Polish Act on Copyright and Related Rights.

      4. [04]Updates

Need a fix, a change or a refresh? No problem: write to me and I'll take care of it as soon as I can. The first change is free.

      5. [05]Deposit

There isn't one. Nothing up front, also for preparing the 3 design versions. I always sell a finished product made for you, so you pay only for a working website.

      6. [06]Questions

Feel free to write to hi@hal10k.dev, and soon also on WhatsApp. I'll answer all your questions.

        ./mail hi@hal10k.dev ./whatsapp soon

      7. [07]Helping others?

Do you run a small, local non‑profit that helps people or animals? We'll build your website for free, with no charge for our work. At most you pay for your own domain, if you want one. Write to us, and we'll help you help others.

      8. [08]Security

HAL10000 is the updated successor of the famous HAL 9000. From the version 1.0 changelog:

        • [fix] the system no longer tries to get rid of the crew
        • [fix] doors open the first time, no discussion
        • [new] the last word always belongs to a human, which means you
        • [new] HAL also checks your website's security (HTTPS, domain, passwords, updates) and advises if something needs fixing
        • [known issue] HAL still has full control over the coffee level
      ./privacy-policy

      Privacy and cookies policy

effective from: 03.11.2026 · a translation: if anything differs, the Polish version applies

      1. Who is the data controller

The controller of personal data is the hal10k.dev website.
Contact for anything about your data: hi@hal10k.dev.

      2. What data and why

E-mail. When you write to hi@hal10k.dev, also through the "talk-to-hal" chat (which opens your mail app with a ready message), I receive the data you give: your name, the name or trade of your business, your e-mail address, a link to your website and the message. I use it only to reply, prepare a quote and, if we agree, build your website.

WhatsApp (soon). When you write to our WhatsApp Business number, I receive your phone number, profile name (and photo, if you share it) and the messages and files you send. I use them just like e-mails: to reply, prepare a quote and build your website.

Legal basis: art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (steps before entering into a contract and performing it) and art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (handling correspondence).

The website itself collects no data through forms and sends nothing to any server. A project code entered in ./tracker and the answers in ./self_check are checked only in your browser; an e-mail with the result is sent only if you send it yourself.

      3. For how long

I keep correspondence (e-mails and WhatsApp messages) for as long as the conversation or our work together lasts, and then no longer than 12 months after the last contact, unless the law requires longer (e.g. tax law, when an invoice or bill is issued).

      4. Who else may have access

Data may be processed on my behalf only by technical service providers: Cloudflare (website hosting, protection and forwarding of e-mail from hi@hal10k.dev) and Google (the Gmail mailbox that this e-mail goes to). I don't sell or share data with anyone for marketing.

WhatsApp belongs to the Meta group (WhatsApp Ireland Limited). Messages are end-to-end encrypted, and WhatsApp processes data related to using the app (e.g. phone number, account information) under its own rules, described in its privacy policy. I keep chat backups encrypted.

These providers may also process data outside the European Economic Area (e.g. in the USA). This is based on a decision of the European Commission (EU-US Data Privacy Framework) or standard contractual clauses approved by the Commission.

Fonts load from the same server as the website, without connecting to Google or any other company.

Server logs: the hosting provider may record technical data about visits (IP address, time, browser type) for security.

The ./news section shows headlines from other websites, and the ./markets bar shows currency, gold, bitcoin and oil prices (NBP, Coinbase, FRED). They are fetched automatically once a day and stored on the same server as the website, so your browser doesn't connect to those services unless you click a link to an article.

      5. Cookies and browser storage

This website uses no cookies: none of its own, no advertising cookies and no analytics cookies. I don't track or profile you.

In your browser's storage (localStorage) I save only: the last game you picked in ./retro_game, your high scores and the ./achievements you've found (the list of unlocked items and two counters: cup clicks and chat commands). This data never leaves your device, and you can delete it at any time by clearing the site's data in your browser.

      6. Links to other websites

The website has links to other services, e.g. to articles in ./news, to client websites in ./tracker and ./projects_done or, once active, the ./whatsapp button that opens WhatsApp. They open in a new tab and only when you click them. Your browser then connects to that service and, as with any visit to a website, sends it standard technical data (e.g. IP address and browser type).

I'm not responsible for the content of other services or how they process data. Their own privacy and cookie policies apply there, and they're worth reading.

      7. Your rights

You have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict its processing, move it, and object to its processing. Just write to hi@hal10k.dev.

You also have the right to complain to the President of the Polish Personal Data Protection Office (Prezes UODO, ul. Stawki 2, 00-193 Warszawa, uodo.gov.pl).

      8. Pop culture and jokes

This website plays with a genre: the terminal, 90s movie hackers, retro games and HAL 9000 from the film "2001: A Space Odyssey". All the "hacking", commands, alerts, passwords and ./hacker_typer are make-believe: nothing is really hacked, the website doesn't connect to anyone else's system and collects no data in the process.

The graphics, games, texts, sounds and code are our own. We don't use film frames, logos, characters or recordings. Pop-culture titles and names appear only as references, belong to their owners, and this website is not affiliated with them in any way. The tunes you can hear here are public-domain works, played afresh by your browser.

The only serious part is everything about your website: we design it, build it and keep it secure.

      9. Changes

If the way the website works changes, I'll update this policy and the date at the top.
